Purpose/Use/Notes: This software is needed to operate the laser cutter that was recently purchased for classroom use. Students and staff will design projects in Adobe Illustrator, which is already approved by the district, and then use LaserGRBL to transfer those designs to the laser cutter for fabrication. This aligns with hands-on, project-based learning goals in areas like STEM, art, and design. LaserGRBL is the free option for our specific laser model. There is an alternative program available called LightBurn, but it requires a one-time paid license. We are trying to minimize costs by first attempting to use the free software. If this software is not approved, I would appreciate guidance on the district’s recommended approach: Should we consider switching to a different laser cutter model that uses a district-approved platform? Or is there an existing approval process for software of this type that we should follow? Please note that this laser cutter purchase was approved by my principal, and I followed the appropriate internal steps prior to making the request.
